As you probably already know,  every fence post out there is unique; So is each Fence Post Wine Holder. These photos are examples of previous  wine holders but each new creation is a 'one of a kind'.

The wood can be any of the following: Pine, Western Red Cedar and Juniper. Sometimes Scrub-Oak and Aspen.

 

These one of a kind Fence Post Wine Holders are made by a talented artist, Dan Rieple. Each has a tag attached with the following inscription written by Dan, himself.

 

 

When I look at a fence post, the first thing I see is a big, rough, weathered stick possessing all kinds of defects and damage. Most are rotten on the end and sometimes to the core. They are usually split, burned from a praire fire, home to various kinds of bugs, and often the splits are filled with blow sand. In fact, the post is no longer doing its job for which it is intended. It has rotted off and is pulling down the fence instead of holding it up. So it is replaced by a steel post and is then relegated to a pile of other post whose last useful purpose may be to provide heat for someone's home.

 

But there is a woodworker who sees the potential of some beautiful creation waiting to be formed from a big ugly stick.

 

After grinding and sanding, drilling, more sanding, the post begins to take a new and pleasuring shape. Often the more weathered the post, the more beautiful they become. It is coated with a finish, sanded some more, then recoated one last time. It is done. It is beautiful (usually!) But it has taken a great deal of effort and some pretty rough treatment to get there. It has been saved from the fire and given a new life, one for a completely different purpose.

 

In some ways, I've been a post. Though often painful, I'm glad to be in the hands of the One who, without error, saws, grinds, and sands this rough and damaged post into a new and beautiful creation. I look forward to the finished product.
